The latest version of the Scania R Series truck has been unveiled in Sweden and features an upgrade of the model range. Apart from a few exterior design changes, Scania have listened to criticism of the previous model and tried to come up with solutions.

One of the aspects to receive an upgrade is the transmission with the latest version of the Opticruise gear box claimed to be capable of making intuitive changes more in tune to the road conditions and load carried.

The option of a fully automatic version of the box, without a clutch pedal is also to be offered. This seems to be at odds with Scania CEO Leif Ostling’s long held view about the safety aspects of the availibility of a clutch to the driver. Obviously, these concrerns have been allayed and the two pedal option becomes reality, some time after it has been offered by every other European truck manufacturer.
