Today etruck is out on the Bruce Highway in Quensland testing a bunch of Isuzus. This morning it is the top of the range 510 hp Giga prime mover hauling a full B-double set.
It’s great to see how far the Japanese truck makers have come in recent years since they decided to become outward looking and build trucks to suit the global markets. This truck has a very European feel about it despite having a cab from the last century.
The AMT gearbox works very well with the driveline and Isuzu seem to have enough inputs of info from different truck systems to make this a smart gearbox. It is possible to fool the box by gunning it just as it slows and is working hard but this is easy to avoid.
Probably the most impressive thing about the high power Giga is how quiet it is both from the driver’s seat and from the outside as it passes.
