UK “Road Train” Trial
Close examination of the photo shows this is simply wishful thinking on the part of a photographer with too much time on their hands in a UK refrigerated freight yard. The giveaway is the lack of dollies under the front of the trailing units.
This is symptomatic of the fascination around the world with our road trains in Australia. In crowded areas like Europe they have little understanding of the practicalities of road train operation.
It’s not a matter of how many trailers you can pull with one prime mover. Real productivity savings are being made when you can get just a bit more freight on busy routes, not the triples and quads travelling about in remote areas.
