New parts facility opens
Western Star and MAN have officially opened their new Aftermarket Support Centre at Wacol, QLD, adjacent to its existing head office and production facility. The centre features a 13,000 square metre Parts Distribution Centre (PDC); the National Centre for Technical Training; and office area for Western Star and MAN parts and service personnel.
The move of the PDC to the new Aftermarket Support Centre allows Western Star and MAN to expand the production facility at the existing building to cater for the increasing demand for Western Star trucks and MAN trucks and buses.
Paul Lucas, Deputy Premier Queensland, Minister for Infrastructure and Planning along with Terry Peabody, Executive Chairman of Transpacific Industries and Paul Glavac, Managing Director of Western Star MAN, officially opened the new facility.
“The facility truly reflects our commitment to provide industry leading aftermarket support to our customers and dealers,” said Peabody in his speech. “We are proud of the fact that we are an Australian company and a Queensland based business.
“We have a long history and deep commitment to the Australian Commercial Vehicle Industry. This new building combined with the expanded production facility next door, reaffirms our commitment. Western Star and MAN are premier products, and we are dedicated to provide premier aftermarket support for the products.”
The Aftermarket Support Centre is part of the Interchange Industrial Park, which is being developed by Stockland and DeLuca Corporation. At current operation, over 37,000 lines totaling 756,000 parts are held in the PDC. This represents a value of about $21 Million. There are 5,280 pallet spaces and this can be increased to 7,300 pallet spaces if required.
The National Technical Training Centre is the home for all factory sponsored technical training for both brands and features two dedicated truck bays for hands-on technical training.
