Tracking 24/7
I hope the suppliers the Transport Certification Australia have approved to supply the Intelligence Access Program equipment and online tracking and compliance checking are a bit better at keeping on line than the TCA itself.
They have announced the securing of a third approved supplier for the expensive satellite tracking systems needed to qualify for Higher Mass Limits and other productivity innovations. However, if you follow the link to their announcement the page is not available.
It has been the length of time it has taken to get approved suppliers holding the transport industry back in their attempts to get more productive trucks on the road. The bar has been set so high the suppliers have struggled to meet the requirements and, in one case, abandoned certification after achieving it.
This appears to be one of the many areas where the regulators have gone over the top in requiring compliance.
Millions of dollars worth of tracking equipment has been rendered obsolete by being incompatible with the IAP standards while being capable of tracking movements and driving hours accurately in a way the authorities could monitor in real time and check for compliance live, as it happens.
First, the TCA need to get their website working to find out who we can get this compliant equipment through.
