Iveco looking to buy?

A report on Reuters is suggesting Iveco may be looking to buy or merge with a partner, presumably another truck manufacturer.

Iveco have been left behind in recent years with the emergence of global truck manufacturing groups like Daimler, Volvo, Paccar and Volkswagen/MAN/Scania.

This means the list of possible partners is not very long but could include Indian or Chinese companies where Iveco already have a relationship.

Navistar is another truck maker left out in the cold and already involved with Iveco here in Australia where they assemble and distribute International trucks.

Scania and MAN are not to be discounted either. Both are very strong in heavy duty in Europe while Iveco is one of the dominant players in the light and medium duty.

However, another factor is the tendency of Fiat, Iveco’s owner, to make extreme claims without delivering on them. We will wait and see!
