~ Government inaction could be a disaster

ATA NSW has today called for the NSW Government to act quickly and deliver adequate rest areas for truck drivers. ATA NSW Manager, Jill Lewis, said that the fact that NSW RTA is not treating the serious lack of rest areas as urgent could prove to be a life and death situation for some drivers.

~ Tata/Iveco talks to resume

Iveco’s CEO, Paolo Monferino, speaking to Italy’s Il Giornale newspaper has unveiled the resumption of talks between the Italian truck maker and the Indian truck manufacturer Tata. This could lead, long term, to a new range on sale in Australia under the Iveco brand.

Isuzu is offering its new generation Tradepack – ready-to-work truck. Available on NPR 200 (4,500 kg GVM for car licence operation) or NPR 275 (5,500 kg GVM for maximum payload and diesel fuel credit) models in either standard or ‘Premium’ level.

~ Senate stops fuel tax increase

The Senate has disallowed the planned increase in the effective fuel tax paid by trucking companies. The increase would have taken effect from 1 January 2009, and would have seen the industry’s fuel tax go up from 19.633 cents per litre to 21 cents per litre.
